Obama’s stimulus package to provide rebates for energy-efficient appliances?

Next on the stimulus agenda is a rebate on appliances.

The US stimulus bill recently signed into law by US President Barack Obama includes a $300 million provision to fund the Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.

The consumer rebate will offset the cost differential between Energy Star and non-Energy Star appliances. These savings, coupled with the lifetime energy savings, would more than pay for the total investment in the new appliances.

This may come in handy with first time buyers.

Ohmygosh, I heard about this briefly on the news this morning and I thought they were doing tongue in cheek kidding.  Rebates?  cash for appliances?  Wow..  guess who is paying for all this? you and me!

Will the rebate only apply to first time buyers in the USA or anyone who wants to buy an energy efficient appliance?

Jeff & Heather:

That's interesting to know and anything that encourages "greenery" will help us all to move in that direction.  I just replaced all of my appliances with stainless steel.  They must be more energy efficient than the previous ones. (?)  I guess I will have to save my receipts for tax time.
