Boulder City, Nevada is located about 10 minutes from The Lake Mead National Recreation Area were sailing is very popular. One of my passions is sailing. Lake Mead in Boulder City, Nevada has about 250 miles of shore line. It is over 1200 feet deep in some places. It is also a great place to let the wind hit your face as you cruise along trying to keep up with the changing wind direction. As a beginner you are not alone.
Every Wednesday night sailors have an event called, "Wet Wednesdays". Sailboats and crews leave the dock around 6PM and return about 9:30PM. You don't have to be experienced to take part in the fun on Lake Mead in Boulder City, Nevada
Captains almost always could use more crew members. If you are new and don't know much about sailing, you can always just sit back, relax and watch. There is nothing quite like gliding effortlessly over the waters under a full moon like a hawk using the currents of air to propel itself above the earth below. All you hear is the sound of the wind as it fills the sails and the sound of the bow as it slides along the water.
The Nevada Yacht Club and The Lake Mead Sailing Club are two of the clubs located on Lake Mead in Boulder City, Nevada. The Nevada Yacht Club hosts sailboat races on certain weekends. The Lake Mead Sailing Club sponsors cruises throughout the year. One of the special cruises is called The Moonlight Cruise. There is also a lcourse given if you are sailing for the first time. The course is given at Lake Mead near Boulder City, Nevada at various times during the year. It was after taking this two day course that I started sailing again. The course costs about $30.00 and includes a workbook. On the second day you actually go sailing with other students and captains as crew members.
Boulder City, Nevada does have a lot to offer its residents in terms of nautical adventures. It is one of the reasons why I call Boulder City home.
