I had the pleasure yesterday of hearing about many awesome programs and possibilities for the young people in the Pine Bush School District. I will be posting on many of them in the coming few days but one that I felt particularly excited about was the Spirit Club at the Pine Bush High School. Pine Bush has been providing a lot of innovative new programs to excite the students about various career paths, leadership, and activities but the administration was feeling that the kids did not have the connection to the school, the feeling of community that students of the past had at the high school.
Enter the Spirit Club. A new invention which was promoted to the students at each classes welcome back assembly. The adviser expected maybe 20 students to arrive for the organizational meeting a few weeks ago. Imagine her surprise when 150 students showed up! With a total school population of just under 2000 that is some impressive number. Since then even more students have joined and the group has divided into sections based on the high school year each student is in.
They have many activities planned to boost the high school pride. One of the most exciting is the upcoming Homecoming celebrations. Homecoming in recent years has lost it's luster and clearly these kids want to bring it back BIG TIME! There is a Week of Homecoming activities at the school, the Homecoming Football game Friday, and an all day Homecoming Carnival on Saturday of Homecoming Week later this month. More information on this to follow.
instill a sense of pride in your school.
