Have you been out shopping for a new car lately? The selection is dreary to say the least. My wife and I went to six different car dealerships, only to find obscure models or cars with very odd colors.

The dealer’s sales people all offered to order a specific model, just the way we wanted, built to our specifications. We were told by one dealer that if we ordered a car it would be at full market price and would not be eligible for any specials or rebate prices. We were also told that our trade in would be revalued at the time that our new car was delivered; this would be in 8 to 12 weeks.

Remember when you would be able to go to the dealer and drive home with what you wanted. This will only be a fond memory now. Welcome to the new world order of car dealerships…

Paul, I was in that business for over 25 years. Dealers simply cannot trust the manufacturer or the government anymore. Most dealerships are in the used car business now days.

Paul - I've been considering a new vehicle and drove through 5 dealer lots yesterday. The inventory was so low I didn't even stop.

Paul - I just paid mine off.  I think I'm going to drive it until it falls apart.  Will be nice to go without a car payment for awhile.

The New World Order Of Car Dealerships... Is the old world order again.  Until recent years maybe the last 30 years or so that was the only way to buy a car.  I had this exact conversation with my father-in-law just the other day.  In 1968 when he wanted a new Chevy he had to order it and wait 3 months for it to come in. Hopefully, it will bring great customer service back to the dealerships and lift the stigma against car sales people.

Joseph, With most things, it is hard to go back in time. If this continues there will be no need for car dealerships. We might as well do it on line...

Well, I cant say Im not surprised that the selection is smaller because they have seriously cut back (all makes and models), but Im surprised they cant offer some deals when you special order. I realize that it costs a lot to ship the one vehicle, but come one... some rebates should be welcome.
