Help!  I'm Getting Addicted to Twitter!

Years ago it was eBay.  A year ago it was Active Rain.  Now it's Twitter

When will I ever find time to write those thank you notes for the Open House I held ten days ago?  Probably never!  I just cannot pull away.

I cannot help it.  The stumbling upon, serendipitous, sleuthing, finding, discovering, repeating, sharing, and connecting is somehow enjoying.

Last night while I was tweeting, someone started to follow me and I knew her!  It was my daughter-in-law's mother.  So I immediately followed her and thanked her for her follow.

Email seems slow.  Not quite as slow as snail mail.

Is there any recovery?  Is there any hope?

I can justify my tweeting now that Google is indexing Twitter.  I can say it is good for my SEO -- and it is.

I can connect with people in my geographic area.  I can connect with people in my company.  I can connect with people in specific areas of interest.

In short, Twitter is fantastic!

I check my Klout and I check what people in my town are tweeting about.  Every day there are new exciting Twitter applications.Help!  I'm Getting Addicted to Twitter!

My head is going back and forth like at a tennis game.  To tweet or not to tweet.  I haven't gotten into it and I think it is just going to pull me even more away from what I need to be doing on a a daily basis to bring in business.  Glad you are enjoying it and kudos on "getting" it.  I still don't.

Joan,

I just don't get Facebook yet.  I know people are getting business off of it, but it seems very cumbersome to me.

Twitter, on the other hand is really quick, concise, and so constantly changing.  It's all the exciting applications that are making it fun.

You can create lists on Twitter.  I have started to keep track of horse lovers and realtors.  I also chase down Oklahoma people and Tulsa people.

It's viral -- contagious and quick.

If there's a tornado coming I'll know first from Twitter I'm sure -- if I happen to be on it at the time, anyway.  It's pretty amazing.

Jane -- the way to "get it" is to start following people and then follow people that they are following.  Pretty soon you will get people following back and you will start to see trends and develop favorites.

I do recommend that you check who is following you.  You have to block the perverts and the porn queens -- because you don't want bizarre thumbnails among your lists of "followers" and "following."

I can't find enough time to do all I should on AR, much less Twiiter. There are just too many things, many of which are time wasters.

I too am becoming a Twitter addict. Like anything else, you have to budget your time. FutureTweets is great for scheduling tweets - I TRY to do that a day ahead of time. TweetDeck or HootSuite are great for being able to look at multiple columns at once. I think the "engaging" portion is what I'm having the most difficult time with. And, yes, I am behind on checking my list of followers, but that's needed housework.

I just have to allot time for Twitter, Facebook, blogging, AR, etc. Some days I feel like I have NO time to do a CMA!  :-)

Lori:

TweetDeck is an app I have not tried?  Does it really help?

Also, I have never heard of HootSuite.  How have you used it?

Just about every Twitter app I know about I have learned from clicking on the litter glossary link on the right of my Twitter screen.

It's so nice to have had these little conversations.  I hope to get to meet you soon. :)

Paying attention to Google rankings, Facebook, and Twitter can be a full time job. The reason I really like Twitter is that it is the infant of online marketing. There are few applications where you can get in on the ground floor. FYI, watch out for malware. If you get a direct message and it wants you to open it up, beware.

Joe,

Thanks for the advice about the malware.  I really hadn't thought of that, but you are absolutely right.
