Walmart in Ahwatukee?!?

As a resident of Ahwatukee I have heard all the buzz surrounding the possibility of a Walmart coming to our quiet neighborhood.  Learning the ground will be broken is making the truth sink in.  My question is who plans on shopping there?   Most residents are publically voicing they don't want a Walmart and will never shop there.  The words make me flashback to my teen days when I lived in Payson and the same to-do was made when Walmart first came there.  The paper was full of residents spouting that they would never go into the store.  Now they have moved into a larger location and opened a Super Walmart.

So again I wonder, we will all be shopping at Walmart?  And, could the day possibly come that we are hoping for a larger location and a Super Walmart in our quite little Foothills?

I live very close to a recently opened Super WalMart. Many people made the same noises and said they would never shop there. I have noticed that the parking lot is always full and my neighbors do tend to go there because it is convenient. It has spawned an adjacent mini mall and several new eateries which create more local employment. Not high paying jobs, but still ones that did not exist at all before.

I think that some people will say that they are against the building of a new WalMart because it is the popular thing to do, not because they really mean it. As long as people insist on the lowest possible price and the most convenient location for any given item there will be new WalMarts opening.

I agree with Deb. It will probably end  up being good for the community. And, I've never seen a WalMart that doesn't do great business, no matter how much fussing people do before it is built.
