I LOVE OAK CLIFF, TX...it's my hood!

I live in Dallas, but those of us who live in Oak Cliff rarely say we live in Dallas.  I am proud to say I live in Oak Cliff!  I am a Cliff Dweller.  More specifically I live in North Oak Cliff. Oak Cliff is the largest of the five areas of Dallas.  It used to be it's own city before it was annexed into Dallas way back when.  That being said, there is a lot of room for several types of communities.  In an area so large, and in a big city, Oak Cliff definitely has it's "shady parts" which seem to always make the news and hence make the rest of the DFW metroplex think Oak Cliff is not the place to be.  Well guess what, it is the best place in Dallas to be!  Which is good right, I mean, Oak Cliff, it's my hood!  I better love it!  There is even a rap song titled, "Oak Cliff, that's my hood!" which is where I get my slogan.  I think North Oak Cliff is Dallas' little hidden secret.  It is one of the oldest parts of Dallas, thus giving beautiful mature trees, we have rolling hills and just about every home is filled with character because believe it or not, when Oak Cliff was built, they didn't have cookie cutter homes!  North Oak Cliff is a small, tight knit community within a very large city.  I have never lived anywhere where I felt more connected than I do to  my community.  Cliff Dwellers can see the Dallas downtown skyline and get downtown to work or play within minutes...even with traffic!  There is always a short cut to Oak Cliff and you never even have to get on a highway!  Those of you living in the 'burbs, imagine that! I'd say Cliff Dwellers are pretty green.  I think that's part of why we live here...we want to conserve our energy and live where everything is happening.  Oak Cliff has some of Dallas' most fabulous restaurants.  Oak Cliff is growing, revitalizing, and I believe the best kept secret in Dallas!

I've never heard of Oak Cliff but now I want to see it for myself.  What a great Localism post!  Do you have any pictures of Oak Cliff?  With posts like this bringing it attention, it won't be a secret much longer.

I'm new to AR and haven't learned how to insert pictures, but that is a great idea!  Do you just cut and paste them in?  I will try to edit it and add some pictures!

Aja, to insert a picture click on the icon that resembles a tree.  A second window will pop up in which you can browse and select the picture.  Click yes, then the picture will be inserted to the first window.  Go the the back tab and resize to picture to about 400 pixels, then you are done!

Also, you can do an Active Rain search on how to insert pictures.  I am sure that there has been other blog posts about how to do it.

Good luck and welcome to Active Rain!

The streets down there confuse me as they all curve and merge, and it's easy to get lost... And I could never live in a house through a rehab like you did/are.

It's easy to get lost anywhere you're not familiar with!  I don't know that our remodel is much different than your new construction issues.  If we were normal people and got a loan and had a contractor do it all in a few months, it wouldn't be bad at all.  We could have lived in the other house.  It's when your husband says he can do it ALL himself that you should run far and fast!

Aja,

It is indeed a great area.  I need to get over there more and check it out.

It is good to know the residents in Oak Cliff now have a choice when it comes to finding a real estate agent.

Welcome to ActiveRain! Don't take this the wrong way, but you don't look like you are from a 'hood' sort of place. Thats not a shot at Oak Cliff, just the term 'hood'. Its good to be proud of where you are from. Im a believer that its not where you came from but where you are going. Just keeping heading UP!

John since you're from the area, I'm sure you've heard of the "bad" parts of Oak Cliff.  Actually, most don't even know there are some very nice parts to Oak Cliff...some of the most beautiful houses and landscaping in all of Dallas.  You're correct, I do not live in "the hood" part of Oak Cliff, but us Cliff Dwellers like to think that we're tough.  It stems from people giving us what I call the Oak Cliff "oh" when you tell people where you live.  "I live in Oak Cliff."  Response, "Oh..."

Angelia - Nice to "meet" a neighbor.  I pass your house everyday taking my son to childcare!

Richard - You should check OC out more, and sell my listings :)

I grew up in North Oak Cliff, and is part of me. I would love to go back. Right now, I live in Garland. Imy Father used to own several rent houses there and ran a Plumbing company. I may have to pull some strings from some old friends and have them help find a home so I can come back home......
