Why Active Rain Sucks

If You're Drinking to Forget, Pay in Advance

In my time here I have read countless posts, wrote over 550, and commented nearly 10,000 times. In short, I have had the privilege to see a lot on AR, some good, some bad, and some that just defies any category that you could possibly put them in and those seem to be my favorite.

One thing that I have encountered in the comments on posts that I have written, as well as the posts of others several times, is an occurrence that always makes me laugh. I call them uninformed commenters, and if you look closely, you will see them from time to time and it may just bring a smile to your face depending on your sense of humor.

The uninformed commenter is someone that leaves a comment on a post that allows you the opportunity to realize that they have no clue what the post is about. The most common case is when someone leaves a comment based purely on the title of said post, and they obviously did not actually read it.

Read the Post

At one point I wrote a post that was titled " Ronald Reagan was the Antichrist." The title was to help prove a point and the post was written about people who see conspiracies in everything. The post itself in fact, had absolutely nothing to do with our former president, it only used his name as an example. His name is Ronald Wilson Reagan, all three names have six letters and therefore put the three together and you have 666.

One gentleman chimed in on the post and left the comment that I was way off base where Reagan was concerned. I had to laugh when I saw the comment, because you could tell that the only thing he had done was read the title and cash in on his 10 points for the comment. I'm sure he felt like he said his peace and he proudly moved on to get the rest of his comment points without a second thought.

So here's some free advice, if you don't want myself and others to get a good laugh at your expense, then read the post before you comment. You might just make yourself look well informed in the process and avoid looking pretty dumb too.

I wonder how many people will come to the defense of AR because of this title. I'll certainly know with this one if you read the post or not.

Wow !  So many comments on this one.  Shows what a good title can do.  AR sucks indeed !  It is the reason I keep on blogging and commenting and growing a business : )  .   I wonder how many people did not read your post but only the title : )

I always pick my posts to read by the title. You made a good point. I too have seen those who were just after the points. If I open it , I read it. Good post.

JL, I never knew about that 6 letters thing, very interesting.  Just had someone do that on my last post, got all torqued out of shape that wasn't even the topic.  Let's stay on track and at least show you are coherent.  Maybe it's drinking & blogging?  Car keys got taken away but there was always his trusty computer!

Thank you for an informative and helpful post.

Just kidding!  That is a comment made by an AR member on all posts.  This blog post is a tribute to that person!  Good stuff as usual JL.  Thanks!

JL, There are always going to be people who try to cheat or beat the system and I would just bet that a REALTOR looking to refer a client would not use someone who posts comments without reading the actual blog just to get the points!  I know that I wouldn't a REALTOR like that because if they are that lazy about AR they probably would not give my client the type of service that I would give.

JL - I also notice when someone comments on a minor point, the next commenters pick up on that, and it grows.... way off point.

It does suck, because it keeps agents blogging when they should be out tracking down new leads and servicing their existing clients.

The National Weather Service will put a blizzard warning into effect at midnight tonight, and the agency says the magnitude of the expected storm has not been seen in the area for a decade.

JL, I read the post, and fyi.....you get 25 points for commenting. But you're right...if I'm being polite in commenting because the individual has stopped by and commented on one of my posts, and if there is no white space, no photos, and there's just too much to wrap my brain around.....yeah, I would probably leave a lest than stellar comment. ;-)

You are right on target!  I was thinking yesterday that it seems awful funny that the same people show up in many of the popular posts only to leave a one-liner such as "Great post.  Thanks for the information."

Do you think if I copy the quote above and paste it in ALL of the discussions today I could become the #1 agent in the country!  Maybe the WORLD!!! ;>

I am just being SARCASTIC.  This is my first comment by the way on any AR post.  I guess you struck a cord!
