Earlier in the year I talked about an exciting website called GreenHalloween, which was packed with priceless advice on how to enjoy the Halloween holiday whilst continuing your Green Commitment. This website inspired me to find an equally environmentally focused website for the upcoming holidays. It wasn’t hard to find, after referring back to the GreenHalloween site, I found a link to the Celebrategreen website, which I am excited to share with you covers all the holidays.
Celebrategreen is stuffed with green information, I was amazed that within 5 minutes of reading and watching a short but informative video I had many new ideas which in turn will help you save money, reduce your impact on the environment and increase family time by involving the whole family in holiday activities.
Whilst browsing through the Celebrategreen website I found out the startling fact that every year we create 25% more waste during the holiday season. Thankfully Celebrategreen have many green wrapping ideas, and green tips that include making holiday decorations that can be composted after the holidays to help you reduce your waste.
Naturally there is also information on environmentally friendly gift giving, which stresses the idea of giving charitable donations rather than buying wasteful unwanted gifts for friends and family. If you are still looking for a green gift consider giving to the Arlington Virtual Food Drive in the name of your friend or family member and help those in the Arlington community who are less fortunate. The AFAC already distributes approximately 1700 bags of groceries each week to over 1200 families. Nearly half of those we serve are children. Donating this holiday season and throughout the year would help increase the number of people and children the AFAC would be able to provide with groceries.
