Snowman from Recycled ProductsThe Recycle Snowman Contest is a fun community event in Pearland, Texas (Houston area) that will be part of Winterfest 2010 on January 9.

Snowmen from the beginning have been constructed from natural and "recycled" items such as snow(!), a carrot, that old scarf with holes in it or a worn out broom. In the spirit of re-use/re-purpose your snowman can be built out of recyclable products only.

Families, school classes or clubs must pre-register for $5 by January 5, at Pearland Parks and Recreation office.
Entry Form

Please adhere to the guidelines for entering the contest, size restrictions and delivery or pick-up dates.

Great idea!  Recycled snowmen!  I don't imagine a snowman made out of real snow would be possible in Texas.

Hey, Sara - Somehow I'm not getting a good visual on that there recycled carrot. LOL

That sounds like my kind of event. Hope you get to go and take some pictures to share with the rest of us.

Sara, feel free to head to Maryland and grab as much snow as you would need. We seem to have an abundance of it these past few days.

Thanks all for your comments, I appreciate them. The crazy thing that happened on that Saturday was a low temperature of 22 degrees . . . in the Houston area!! We are not in the habit of "winterizing" on any significant level, so there were sprinkler ruptures and other cold weather damage throughout the area. We are used to difficult weather in the summer with heat, humidity and hurricanes, but the cold this year was unexpected. I missed Winterfest because I was helping people with the sprinkler issue. Next year? . . .
