While I was working on my computer, I received a pop up message that read something like this. "Warning, you have Trojan horses and worm email viruses that could harm your computer, fix them immediately your computer is at risk". I clicked on the button fix now. A new warning came up, from my anti virus program saying that this is not a trusted site. I stopped the download and went to my paid virus protection program. After the scan was completed, NO VIRUSES were found. Could this be another scam? Very clever. Comments please.
Sounds like Anti Virus 2009 and its a nasty nasty bug. It will piggback in with many sites and pop up. Try AVG its the only known fix.
Hi Kenneth,
I've received the same messagek and I usually turn off off my computer correctly and my Firefox indicates if I want to save this location and I say no. I boot my computer back up and check for virus with my virus protecter and it's usually not there. The only thing is I have a MacBook and I usually don't get viruses, usually they are after "Window Users".... ;>))
It may be an ad trying to get you to use another product. I've seen these types of popups regularly. Only trust the anti-virus program that you install.
I just tried to read a repost about appraisal guidelines and every time I went to it an alarm went off on my computer (3x). It doesn't happen with any other posts so I think that one is linked to something. Anyone else find that?
I agree with Marc, I think it's adware that's getting you to go to their site so you can buy their anti-virus software. Pretty sleazy I think.
Hi Kenneth! Like Marc & Craig--I think it's a solicitation to get you to use their software. If you're clean (no viruses), I wouldn't worry about it! Just MHO!
Have a wonderful weekend...
WOW! Thanks everyone for the comments. Did not expect so many. Just wanted to give a heads up to all the folks who got the same message that I got. Thanks again. Activerain rocks!
Kenneth.. When it doubt.. DON'T click on anything. As you found out, running your *paid* virus protection is the best solution. Nothing that is *free* is truly free.
Kenneth amazing what is out there I am afraid to download any program OR if someone sends me a "e card" I don't open it. Have a great week.
You almost got caught, Ken. I have seen these and when I do I stop in my tracks and run like heck!
