Titanic Ice flows...and the calm after the storm. New Hampshire Photos

By

I'm always amazed by the strength of water, We had some three inches of rain a few days ago. The violent roar of the river heaved literally tons of ice fifty feet up on the banks and stacked it ten feet high. Here is a look at the block of ice in their new resting place.

Here is a different perspective on how high the ice can be pushed and stacked by moving water.

Here are two pictures taken from the same location a few months apart...the ice on the river banks here is about fifteen feet tall...solid blocks the size of a medium size American car.

There are some huge blocks of ice thrown up on my land

Strangly I assumed the worst down by the lake, I was convinced the docks would be twisted and shattered by the rising ice flows. But I found a completely differnt scene there, it was calm and tranquil. The ice fishing houses were as they were before all that rain and the docks were sitting quietly undisturbed.

Amazing photos, Steve.  We heard on the news that the Pemigewasset was expected to take quite a hit with all that rain and thought of you all up there.

Glad you weren't lazing in the hammock during the storm or you would have had to change your tagline to Your White Mountain Real Estate Iceberg.  ;-)

Steve the ice in the first picture almost looks like a cave.

Don't mess with mother nature, she is very very powerful.

Steve:

These are great before and after photos. Those ice blocks are amazing and are reminding me of how cold I was today caught out in our afternoon snow.

Water is a powerful force. It looks so peaceful on the surface but packs quite a punch.

Steve, you take wonderful photos!  In fact, you seem to photograph and post what I just think about, but never do!  I always carry my camera with me, but when I really need it I end up spending so much time fumbling around for it that the photo op has passed.

Thanks,

Jan

Jan, I take my camera skiing with me, walks in the woods...etc, and I'm always ready to snap a few shots. I have a little Cannon power shot that I use for all my photos (small enough to pocket). Thanks for dropping by glad you enjoy my photo posts.
