My grandfather, "Big Dad" yelled at me over the phone long distance when he asked me years ago "How you doing, Son!"

and I replied "Working hard, Dad."..  He screamed 'DITCH DIGGERS WORK HARD, WORK SMART!" to this day I still

remember this event.

Hiring SEO is the same as taking water pills to lose weight!  You loose weight only to gain it back and possible even

more than you lost!

Two months ago when I started to work regularly on my web site I had 2 competitors for ranking on page 1 of Google.

The first one was always #1.  He paid $600 to $700 a month to an SEO firm.  When business got tight, he canceled the SEO

and since that day, he has not been seen.  What the SEO was doing was what might be called "black magic" and eventually

Google and the rest found that SEO was doing and punished it.  This competitor had no page rank of backlinks.

The second competitor for placement had a Page Rank #3 and had a limited number of backlinks which were all links between the

SEO and other companies that used the SEO.  He has 2 companies that he uses to create links between as well as the other

users of the SEO. He's meta tags are good, his web site doesn't change, he uses 2 different names and one is a .com and the

other is a .net (sites are the same).  A month ago he went to a Page Rank #2 when I moved to a Page Rank #2.  Today,

I am still a Page Rank 1 and he has no page rank.  My Alexa rank is 1,000,000 lower than his and my the search engines

are visiting my site very regularly...(Google 2X in last 6 days, Yahoo 4X in the last 6 days, and even Bing 2X in the last

6 days.  I have had 426 visitors to my site in the last 6 days!  HE IS PAYING $125 A MONTH TO THE SEO AND I AM DOING MY

OWN WORK!

The message:  I am working smart while still working a lot of time to achieve the site recognition.  YOU CAN DO IT!

Thank You for this post.  It seems so many companies are telling us we need SEO (from them for a fee)...

Your grandfather was a wise man. As to SEO, it isn't hard work but it is the smart thing to do.

Wow, that is strange they would totally disappear if he didn't keep paying them. Makes you wonder what was going on.

Just keep blogging and updating your web site, so the content is fresh you can stay on top.
