Connecting with people in the neighborhood gets easier all the time. Block parties are going out and Facebook is in. Facebook is now supposedly the fourth largest country in the world and yet it still manages to get into the local neighborhood! I have recently heard of neighbors forming neighborhood watch and community forums through facebook. One other site I stumbled on is www.i-neighbors.org. This is a cool way to build an online community of neighbors. This free service provides a way to create a neighborhood directory, share photos, organize and promote events and share important information about meetings, neighborhood watch and such.
This site also gives you an opportunity as a local agent to create a presence. This past holiday a few agents from my team at EXIT Realty Achieve handed out goody bags to the neighborhood with a flyer encouraging them to log in and become part of the online neighborhood community. We had a good response and felt like we were creating a marketing strategy and providing community service at the same time. If you are a Realtor and create the community it gives you an opportunity to get to know folks, build your sphere and market yourself a little more intentionally. And I always love the community service part too cause we are all about serving others.
Happy I-neighboring!
