Does "re-blogging" effect your SEO?

Penalty     I have tried to lock this one down and can not quite put my finger in on a definite answer. Does anyone know how "re-blogging" effects your SEO. What about within AR and re-blogging from Wordpress. What about if you post feeds to Facebook or some other site?

Here is what I am thinking... It depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your blog. For instance if you are strictly targeting SEO, turn off re-blogging and only post your blog in one place i.e. AR or Wordpress.

In this blog for instance, I am targeting feedback not SEO. I will not post it on Facebook because none of my friends care about my re-blogging SEO however posting on Wordpress and Trulia will get my blog more exposure and therefore more feedback.

I located an article from Google about the subject however it does not specifically Identical Contentmention to re-blogging. Here is the quote that comes closest to answering my question "Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results."

I guess this raises another question - Does re-blogging constitute intentional deception or manipulation? Further in the article there is mention of RSS feeds and print only versions of a page that can cause trouble. If you know the answer, please share!

And... Since I am not targeting SEO in this blog - Feel free to re-blog LOL!

I have found that re-blogging has no effect, positive or negative.  As far as duplicate content penalties, it does take more than 1 replication of content to be penalized.  If this was not the case, every reprint of news (such as the AP) or syndication of information would trigger SEO penalties, which is not the case.

(if this was the case, you could easily do damage to competitor's SEO by simply setting up a single site and spamming his content on it until he was penalized, this black hat technique does not work)

If the re-blog was to be reposted to an outside content related site, the reblog could potentially have some positive SEO benefits.  The links would need to remain intact (tofollow) and they would count as additional inbound links to your site.  The most benefit comes if the site is related content, relevant, and not reciprocated.  But that is just my 2 cents worth :)

I believe you are fine as long as a link to the original source is included in the post.

Robert and May, you are saying that re-blogging outside could actually have positive benifits? Interesting... John this is an interesting thought as well, I can see where that would make sense.

Brian,

I believe you are correct that reblogging has a neutral effect with Google.

Legit reblogging is syndication not duplication, so the impact should be positive to null. The anchored link headline back to an original, in particular, would help. Thanks for bringing this up, Brian.

It is important to know which page will rank;  Google will rank the SOURCE: my advice, reblog a partial post, with a link back to your iriginal blog (on your own domain) as the source

I blog on my blog, digg.com it, facebook, Twitter, stumble, then reblog here and other places, to make absolutley sure Google ranks my site as the source:

It doen ot matter, untill you want to contraol rankings like this:

http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS247&=&q=social+media+advertising+agency&aq=f&aqi=g-p1&oq=

To achieve rankings on broad 200,000,000 documents plus searches where your comptitors are all guys like me, you ned to actually knwo what you are doing.

What if I said to you: "oh, real estate, I can outsource that just fine, and cheap"

Thank you for your feedback. There is a lot more to it than I thought. How about re-blogging within AR? Not that I would care but if it was pertaining to me as an LO I might.

Brian, Interesting question.  Google ranks according to original source from what I have read.  I think re-blogging may help the original blog, but if I re-blogged your post it would not help my SEO, it may help yours.

The problem with reblogging on AR, is that it crates noise.  It has no affect on SEO.  The whing that you must understand is that YOUR WEBSITE must be established as the source, and YOUR CONTENT myst be distributed creating a trail leading back to you as the source.

It is no longer about SEO, it is about the properly formatted, unique in a ll the world, original content.  If you think about  it, this is the logical result of the advancement of the technology and standardisation or coding a distribution systems.

Monique, I am glad you got you answer. I think I just got more confused.

Jen I think you are right but that is not saying a lot LOL

Israel - You go with your bad self. You just made everyone who thought they were following along stop and twitch while they read that a few times. I think I got it. Thank you
