In this time of economic crisis, the only thing we have to fear is ... acronyms, suggests Louise Radnofsky in the Wall Street Journal . The idea that there is not a government program that can't be distilled into a bunch of letters was popularized, of course, by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or FDR.

Not to be outdone, the Obama Administration introduced the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, or RAT, intended to sniff out "waste, fraud and abuse in the $787 billion bailout plan."

Then there is SNAP which stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or what used to be known as food stamps.   Next came TIGER, the acronym of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, and is supposed to "make sure that recovery money is made available fast."

Then there's the Leaking Underground Storage Tank trust (you figure it out!).

I am not making this up.

The Department of Commerce believes the acronyms are intended to strengthen direct communication with the American people.

What acronyms do you use that your client doesn't understand and is afraid to ask?  Do you use the "new speak"?  Are your words and sentences filled with abbreviations and your descriptions characterized using acronyms?

Take the time to expand on each acronym that you use.  HVAC,  PVC,  HWH,  DW,  MW,  T-Stat, etc.  Your Cx will appreciate the DES and the INFO.  Take care of your Cx.  They hired you because you are the EXP.  You are the PhD and they are the STU.  If they FLK out so will U.

Now Class, go mind your Inspection P's & Q's and be PDQ about it!
