Superferry Redux?

By

It was back in 2007 that I first posted an article on the Hawaii Superferry which was trying to establish inter-island ferry service amid battles with protesters which included the Sierra Club.  A lot has happened in the interim and after limited service, the Sierra Club prevailed, the courts ruled against the Superferry, and they went bankrupt.

Now the Stars and Stripes has published an Associated Press article stating that the military may purchase 12 Superferry-type vessels for high-speed transport of troops and equipment.  One of multiple ports is said to be Honolulu.  The Sierra Club is once again reported to be in opposition for environmental reasons including hitting whales and transporting invasive species between islands.  If there is another study, ALL environmental factors, including fuel consumption of air versus sea transport should be evaluated.   The full article can be found HERE.

Hi Richard:

I'll check out the article.

Being an animal lover...

I don't want anything to interfere with the whales.

Very interesting.  They have tried a couple of times to run a ferry from Toronto to Rochester but it always went belly up.  Not in the water thank goodness.

By the way I saw your comment on a post in a political group.  You're brave.  Have you got your laundry done yet lol?

Hi Toula,

The whales are impressive indeed and this is prime whale watching season.  It's awesome to take a break from real estate and relax on the beach to watch the whales doing back flips.  Are you aware that Continental has a non-stop flight from Newark to Honolulu???

Hi Jenny.  I think the Sierra Club would accept a slow ferry here but  they don't want a fast one.

Ah yes, I remember reading a political comment that had nothing to do with real estate and was struck by the hatred expressed in the post.
