My Pokens

Do you Poken? If you are not sure what I mean by that, I want to introduce you to my latest tech-gadget rave... the Poken. In this recent post on my other Real Estate Virtual Assistant blog, I raved about the Poken and how I think this is the coolest tech gadget of the moment. Now I want to be sure to share it with all of you cool Active Rain folks. (links on where to get one at the bottom of this post)

What is this cute little thing called the Poken? Quite simply, it is a digital business card. This digitial business card will not only carry and share all of your contact information, but also all of your social networks profiles as well. When you come upon someone else with a Poken, you simply touch the little hands together, (or "high 4" as the Poken people call it) and viola, contact information has been instanly exchanged. How cool is that?

Over on my blog, The BVAS Connection, I give a more in-depth review of the Pokens. Plus I made a little video showing them off which you can see here:

Some may call me a geek-girl, and proudly I agree. I get especially geeky when it comes to cool tech gadgets that I see they will simplify aspects of my business and that of my clients. These Pokens can do just that.

  • No more reprinting business cards when you change one of your phone numbers or address. Just update your Poken and it updates all who connected with you. (very GREEN)
  • No more jotting down your social network profile links on the back of a business card or napkin. You can put as many as you want on there.

Where do you get a Poken? Be sure to check out the following vendors that sell Pokens here in the states.

And if you ever run into me in person, be sure to Poken with me!

Megan - Poken sounds interesting. I have not seen any of them here in North Florida. Are they catching on in your area yet?

I haven't seen them here in the DC area either. They sound fun - are they catching on in your area? how many people have them?

I think they're slowly starting to make their way around as people find out about them. They're making appearances at BarCamps and Tweetups.

I've been showing mine off to just about everyone I've run into, and they in turn seek to buy one. I got a pack of them myself that I have been giving away to some of my friends and some people I meet at networking events (great for enticing referrals). And one of my NJ agents just bought 100 with her logo printed on them to hand out to clients and other agents at networking events.

So the buzz is making it's way around. Once people see how cool they are, they tend to want one.

Megan - Pokens sound pretty cool, and like they would be lots of fun.  The only problem is to make them work, everyone else would need to have a poken as well.  I like the idea of buying some and then giving them away to others.

Hi Troy- You are right. The downside to them right now is not everyone has them and in order to poken with anyone, then need to have one too.

It is like anything, the more buzz they generate and word-of-mouth gets around... well, you get the idea. I'm working to spread the word about them in my community and networking sphere. (And I don't even directly sell them, I'm just a Fan)

I wouldn't be surprised if they do start making an appearance at the NAR Convention or other major real estate expos. Here's some recent PR.

I see a future in these as convention badges too.

Never heard of them. Unfortunately, sounds like it won't really be a benefit unless you come across another person with one!

Pokens are really cool, thank you Megan! I saw there’s also an app for smartphones: you touch one smartphone with the other one and it exchanges some valuable information (like the data you usually post on your business card. Also, I saw a very good set of apps for your smartphone (it’s listed in this site and explained how to use it). The disadvantage of these apps are evident: you have to be online and have your battery on (which is hard sometimes). While with Pokens you can actually “save” trees (no more printing, hey!) and eliminate mess in your pockets. One more thing: do you also have it? Sometimes when you are on some presentation or official event you get around 10-20 new business cards and can’t sort them out later? It seems like this confusion is about to end. By the way, Pokens are cool gadgets which are also easy to buy! These are online sites, which provide free shipping and have a good range. This website gives some tips and tricks how to get a bargain and save money on buying gadgets like Poken.
