I always try to be positive on ActiveRain. Just read my postings. But tonight I read someone's blog post and it got me started. Having been a very involved REALTOR working with the local, state and national trade associations for over 10-years and having held many positions including state president, local president etc. I won't spew my credentials but I've been there and have a nice golf shirt to show.
The concern, no, the complaint I have is protectionism. Those involved in volunteer leadership are junkies addicted to the ego, including executive officers and staff who are the addiction dealers feeding the junkies for protection of their jobs and income.
I am convinced we need to consolidate associations, to regionalize MLS to effect an economy of scale to save money, have a better product not only for us but for the consumer. Just look at how people get property information. Do you think 5000 local boards and MLS's can compete? We need to pool the money, hire the best minds we can and attack our competitors who are slowly taking over the original source of all homes and properties for sale, mostly through the Internet.
So we are allowing a very small group of association junkies to make the decisions with a cheering section of executive officers to keep up the good work. Even the legal and legislative areas could be improved and run much better.
Your thoughts on the original intent to collaborate commissions may have been particially true long ago, but now, there are more efficient ways to resolve such issues.
I speak as one who was a junkie and now am in a great addiction recovery program! Life and Real Estate....
