How to Add the New Facebook 'Like' Button to Your Blog Posts

Facebook has undergone some changes recently as you have probably noticed. I highlighted a few of the changes in my post last week 'What Happened to My Fans? Facebook Update'. But maybe the most significant change is the appearance of the Facebook 'Like' button all over the web. Listen to Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerburg talk about the changes at the April 23 Facebook f8 Conference.

Why Do You Want People to 'Like this'?

Adding the 'Like' button to your blog posts offers you a chance to take every blog post viral through the share-ability of Facebook. When someone clicks the 'Like' button on your post Facebook will publish it to their News Stream with a link to your post. Now a link to your post will be instantly visible in the News Feed of all friends of that person with an endorsement from the person who 'Liked' it. You can see the potential here.

Adding the Facebook 'Like' Button to Your Blog Posts

You may have noticed the 'Like' button showing up on sites like CNN or IMDb, but you can also easily add the 'Like' button to any website or blog you maintain. Follow these 3 easy steps to add the 'Like' button to your blog posts here on ActiveRain:

Step One: Write your blog post and save it as a draft. On the screen showing what your published post will look like, copy the address bar.

Copy your blog post URL

Step Two: Go to the Facebook Developers site to create your 'Like' button (you may want to bookmark the page for easy future use). Paste your blog post URL into the 'URL to Like' field. Customize the other options to your liking, then click 'Get Code'.

Insert your blog post URL

Step Three: Copy the generated code for iframe (the first box). Come back to your blog post and click 'edit'. Click the HTML tab in your blog post entry and paste the code where you would like it to appear in your post. (Note: you may want to change the height in the code to "25px" OR "70px" if you selected to show faces.)

Copy iframe code

Please feel free to test out this new feature and click to 'Like' this post!
