Hiking The Illinois River

All aboard!  Seating for two.

Hiking The Illinois River

We turn just beyond the cougar tracks.

Hiking The Illinois River

Unless you wish to return to a town, and drive another twenty miles to a bridge, and then more miles, and a longer Hike On The Illinois River, this is it!

Hiking The Illinois River

There is no other way to cross the raging Illinois River.  You can't swim it, you can't wade across it, but with sufficient arm strength, it can be an exciting trip across.

Hiking The Illinois River

The journey to the "wild" side of the Illinois River looks to be a downhill run.  Now, getting back is a job for some serious hand-over-hand pulling.  That is, after you climb the metal pegs to get aboard the gondola.

Hiking The Illinois River

No frills on this Tram, just the beautiful Illinois River in wild Josephine County in Southern Oregon at its' finest!

Hi Gary, This looks intriguing.  I'm not sure if it's something I'd take on today, but in my younger years I'd have been up there before I could think too much.

Though you only saw the cougar tracks, I can guarantee that cougar was watching you the whole time you were on your hike.

Hi Dan, it looked like it would be a fun ride across, but boy, coming back would sure be tough!

I'm sure you're right Todd, we had our two miniature schnauzers with us, they had to stay are their leashes the entire time!

Hi Gary,

I love the tour of the Illinois River - great photos.  I can almost smell the air.
