Communication involves getting your message across which is then paramount to progressing.
It is vital to understand:

1. what your message is ...
2. what audience you are sending it to ...
3. how it will be perceived ...

Effective communication skills are essential for success in real estate. Clear communication is the foundation of a good agent-client relationship that takes 100% responsibility for all communication in which you are involved. Real estate agents should do a lot of listening and ask a few questions.  Communication is only successful when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information as a result of the communication. 
 
Taking 100% responsibility for communication requires you to be specific and articulate and to actively facilitate the quality of the other party's communication when you are listening, thus active listening occurs.

  • Muddled messages are a barrier to communication because the sender leaves the receiver unclear about the intent of the sender.
  • Stereotyping is a barrier to communication when it causes people to act as if they already know the message that is coming from the sender or worse, as if no message is necessary because "everybody already knows."
  • Filtering is a barrier to communication because it screens out before a message is passed on to someone else.
