After finishing reading The E Myth and finishing my first nine months in Business (who opens a business in the middle of a recession) many realizations have been made.
In the beginning you are the business - you are the salesperson, the boss, the worker, the accountant, the complaints department, the marketing team the administrative person as well. Even if you are a great juggler the amount of time you put in lends itself to exhaustion.
You look at it and you know you can't keep it up. Oh, and are you looking after YOUR Business Development?
There is great news. Even though many Entrepreneurs don't think they can hire someone it's the only way.
So take my lead, after nine months Datagirl is hiring an executive assistant who will be a wizard. Debbie will be training and in September spending two days a week in Vancouver to expand and grow the business. Professional Connections the Networking group that I have founded will be expanding to Vancouver as well. Business Development and time with clients will be top priority along with keeping the wizard happy. Business is about people, from a human resource point of view you need to treat your staff like gold, give them a day off with pay unexpectedly, make them a stakeholder by profit sharing.
