Pre-finished wood flooring is great if you are looking to install a new hardwood floor. You eliminate a lot of steps because you do not have to install the floor and then put stain and polyurethane on it. The cost is generally similar but the time you save may be well worth it.

Laminate floors are designed to look like wood but are less expensive and easier to install. This is a project that someone with limited experience can easily tackle. When choosing a laminate flooring system, watch the quality. The cheapest versions look cheap, while the better grades can help you achieve a very nice look.

Seamless vinyl flooring is another popular option. It usually is installed in one piece and is very cost effective. It is popular because it comes in a variety of styles and colors and is easy to clean. It is widely used in low-end to mid range housing. It should be noted that buyers of higher cost houses would generally expect a better quality floor.

Tile floors come in many different types such as ceramic, porcelain, slate and travertine. There are many different sizes of tile and quality varies, as do the prices. The better the house, the better the quality of tile that you should use. Be careful with color and style as well. While a buyer can change paint colors and carpet fairly easily, a tile floor is much more difficult and costly to change.
