Fast and Delicious Greek Food - Shish Kabob
If you work in downtown Raleigh south of the Capitol Building, you probably already know about Shish Kabob. One of four small buildings in the newly redesigned square between the Bank of America and Wachovia buildings (at the southern end of Fayetteville Street where the old convention center was).
From the outside, it almost looks too small to be a restaurant, but sure enough, you can get some of the best Greek food in Raleigh there at Shish Kabob.
A group of us went there last Friday night before the Riverdance performance in Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, and we were all very impressed.
We all got something different, ranging between Greek salads, lamb gyros (pronounced JEE-ro, by the way. Impress your friends!), spiced chicken kabobs, and pita bread with sauces.
It was all delicious. It's that simple. Even during a slow time, and with only two people working there, Shish Kabob delivered with some of the best Greek for any of us has had.
I've also been there during lunch, and that is definitely not slow by any measure. The line is consistently backed up to the door, if not out it. Service is quick, however, and there are never any issues going to Shish Kabob for a half-hour lunch.
Shish Kabob often has great specials (usually combos) that are definitely worth getting. The average order, I think, ranges between $5.00 and $8.50.
You can get more information on Shish Kabob's website here.
Also in the same square in downtown Raleigh are a Jimmy John's sub sandwich shop, a Krispy Kreme store (we went there for dessert), and The Collector's Galley gift shop.
If you're moving to work in downtown Raleigh, you have to check out Shish Kabob! You won't regret it.
