Helping Our Tooele Community Thrive...

I've spent the last year working on a Tooele Community committee made up of local business people, educators, the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce and Government officials called the "Come Together" committee.

It was started when the economy started to tank and local tax revenues also started to decrease. We started working to increase awareness from our citizens about the importance of shopping locally to keep sales tax revenue in our own Tooele community.

It's always been tough in Tooele County to keep those dollars local. Between the lack of local business to accommodate many of our needs, and our close proximity to Salt Lake City, it was easy to forget to shop locally, and we got out of the habit. However, after a year of hard work, I'm happy to say that we are making big strides in raising public awareness.

Our percentage of tax revenue to the Tooele Community has actually increased over last year!

Part of our campaign focused on making sure that our local retailers recognized the need for top quality customer service, and competitive pricing.

What brought this all up was an experience I had yesterday.

I started having issues with tire wear and handling on my car. I've used shops here in Tooele and Grantsville in the past, but in this case the problem was complicated by the fact that my car is a vintage Porsche. I was expecting trouble finding replacement struts even in SLC, let alone in Tooele County. Imagine my surprise when the local Big O dealer not only had access to them, but at a price significantly less then anywhere else I looked!

Cole at Big O has always been great to work with anyway, but when I got my bill I was pleasantly surprised to find that he didn't charge me for the allignment that was required. On the bill it simply said "no charge-customer satisfaction". Boy, was that the truth! It was then that it occurred to me that if I can find struts for an '87 Porsche in Tooele, we truly have arrived at a place where we no longer have to rely on a trip to Salt Lake for the basics.

It's all here in Tooele County.

By the way, the motto for the campaign is "Work in it, live in it, shop in it, make your community thrive". It's happening in Tooele Grantsville and Stansbury Park, and we are seeing results, and helping our Tooele Community Thrive.
