Photography in Real Estate, From a Realtor In The Greater Clear Lake Area, TX
Whether your a real estate agent, or someone looking to buy or sell property you probably have looked at many real estate sites with pictures. Unfortunately most of these pictures are not of very good quality and may actually hurt the seller, who is wanting to sell their home. I have had buyers who refused to look at a listing because the picture was of such poor quality they just didn't think it was worth going to see. I have also had buyers who have called me and wanted to see a home based on the pictures and even some who then purchased and never looked at another home.
Taking pictures is not just about knowing the right angles (though this is important) but at what time you take the pictures, the weather conditions, what type of lens to use, what is the focus or idea behind why you are taking that particular picture. Most real estate agents don't think of these aspects and it shows in the pictures they take. These are just a few of the overall considerations that must be addressed in order to effectively market a home through photography

I'm fortunate I have a wife who is a professional photographer (as well as myself). I know most real estate agents don't use a professional photographer, even though it would be cost effective, for most listings. I truly believe that good quality pictures will help sell listings, quicker and for more money. If you take your own pictures just make sure you don't use poor quality shots. If it is dark, blurred, or just not right, retake the picture and only use pictures that are clear and help sell the home.

In today's Internet world an ever increasing amount of buyers start their home buying search on the Internet. Poor quality pictures will turn prospective buyers away and the unfortunate fact is you'll never know how many. With today's market you can't afford to turn people off to your listing because of bad pictures. I personally have ignored homes to look at when searching for a home for myself, because of the pictures, and I'm in real estate, so what do you think your buyer does?
I will continue discussing pictures in Real Estate and how to take better pictures in future blogs.
