Auburn was the first city in Maine, and only the second in New England to adopt the Coucil-Manager form of government.
Located in Androscoggin County, across the river from it's sister city of Lewiston, Auburn is conveniently located just 32 miles north of Portland and covers over 66 square miles (almost twice the land size of Boston.) This gives the citizens of Auburn plenty of breathing room while still providing all of the conveniences of a metropolitan area.
