I finally got the opportunity to go into the new HEB store in Katy, Texas off of Pin Oak road and close to old Katy yesterday afternoon (August 14). My impression is that this an excellent store and one that I will visit several times in the future. We live In Grand Lakes and there is a large HEB super store very close to us as it is located at Fry just west of 99 (Grand Parkway). While the new HEB is definitely smaller I found many aspects to be to my liking as compared to the super HEB.
Today when I visited the new HEB I pretended to be one of those folks who show at the super HEB all the time and who have no basket, buy absolutely nothing and just stand in line for all the free samples while surrounding the sample area with their family/friends . In fact when the super HEB opened we had tour busses arrive that were loaded with these folks. The difference between me today and most these visitors is that I was alone without 8 -10 of my family members and did not push everyone in front of me out of the way while standing in line for the free samples. Don't get me wrong as I am not speaking of poor folks or elderly who are struggling to get any meal. We as a family try to help those folks out as best we can. Gosh what is wrong with me as we shop at an HEB store on a regular basis and actually spend money buying our food for the week at these stores. This paragragh is probably not politically correct but all so true!!!!
The first item that you notice when visiting the new HEB is that it is not a major hazzle getting into or out of the parking lot. Shopping at the super HEB has become a major chore just due to the horrible traffic and bad parking situation that no matter what time one goes it is such a headache. The personnel at the new HEB are actually friendly and helpful. The super HEB must take on their management team's attitude towards customers as most of them are neither friendly nor helpful. Yes I know the new HEB just opened but I went to the super HEB when it first opened and even then most of the staff have this attitude problem and it has only gotten worst as time has gone on. The new HEB is smaller yes but much easier to find things as I purposefully looked for items I am usually searching for at the super HEB and found these items without a problem.
My advice to everyone in the area is to try the new HEB and see if you agree with me. I believe you will find it to be an excellent shopping experience and better than the rest of the stores in the Katy area.
