Preparing for another storm in Hampton Roads.... Hurricane Earl

Once again we prepare for another storm.  As the kids are out of school, they are not hoping that it can turn into a missed school day, but sadly, for my daughter who is at the beach with her friends for a week is an
early come back from vacation.  Living in Hampton Roads you never know what kind of weather you are going to get.  In the past few years, we have had a couple Window under water with fish. floodscares from hurricanes,  tornadoes, drought mostly water related storms.  There was one week where we smelled and had fog due to fires from our neighbors to the south in North Carolina.  Our last Nor easter was a new one for me. Lots of floods in the area.  Many of my friends who live in Norfolk had to walk to their cars in thigh deep water.  Our own Unitarian church of Norfolk flooded once more, and it has put the congregation in a difficult situation, as we know it will continue to happen again and again.   I am wondering when will the insurance company cancel our policy.  My most recent buyers found out that because they made a personal claim a few years ago, now they have to pay a premium for their insurance on their house, and that not all companies will insure them.  I still remember when I first came to this country, and bought my first home.  I called the insurance agency to see if they would pay for things three different times.  Never filed a claim, but my policy was canceled non the less.
So as we prepare once again for a hurricane... "Earl"  here is a very basic list of things to remember.

- Water
-  Food - Non-perishable - canned
-  Can opener
-  fuel and cooking tools
Hurricane cartoon
-  First Aid kit
-  Prescription Drugs

-  Toiletries
-  Flashlights - batteries or candles as a last resort

-  Fully charged cell phones - Telephone numbers
-  Tools

-  Pet Care items
-  Entertainment.  Cards, books, games...mad libs

-  Rain gear and shoes

Don't forget to have your car filled with gas, and Seal tight your important documents.  If you have children or people with special needs plan like you are going out of town because you might be on your way out....
