A pineapple lamp base and a few tropical silk flower arrangements give your condo that "Hawai'ian style"
Since many of the best buy opportunities in Kona condos and along the Kohala Coast are either short sales, REO (bank-owned) foreclosure properties or developer close-out, the unit will be coming to its new owner unfurnished (if you want a turnkey furnished unit, avoid distress sales and talk to an agent with a track record in the condo project you like to pick out a best buy.)
The prospect of furnishing should not necessarily discourage you from buying an unfurnished second or vacation home! I ran into the very happy buyers of the Hali'i Kai REO condo that I blogged about over a year ago (that blog post is still generating me business!). Although many buyers enjoy shopping in Kona and Hilo for local "Tommy Bahama" style furnishings and other declare themselves color-blind and put the entire process into the hands of an interior designer, these savvy shoppers who had already scooped up what will likely turn out to be the best-ever deal at Hali'i Kai found a smart furnishing solution as well.
Pottery Barn.
Nope, we don't have one on the island but they ship.
So here's how it went.
First they signed up for a Pottery Barn credit card, which gave them a 10% discount.
Then they took the condo floorplan to their local store and met with a designer who worked with them to pick out all their furnishings. They got a 10% "new home" discount during their free interior design consultation.
The store shipped the furnishings to their new condo in Hawai'i for a very reasonable cost.
All they had to do when it arrived was put the furniture in place, make a Costco run for electronics and kitchenwares, and add a silk bird-of-paradise arrangement and few palm tree and pineapple motif decorative touches.
How cool is that?
A hui hou
