Smoke Poles come in many Different Kinds and Sizes Part Five, have you even a smoke pole utilized? I'll be showing you a few smoke poles in this five part series. I sure do love and enjoy smoke poles!

Flintlock Pistol

The first one I'll be sharing with you, is one of my signal shot muzzlelader pistols. This one is a 1760's German Dragoon Flintlock Pistol. It has a 14" barrel, its over all length is 22 1/2 inches, its a 62 cal. smoothbore. The barrel has a bright polished finish.

Smoke Poles come in many Different Kinds and Sizes Part Five, the German Dragoons have very distinctive style carving to them, unlike the curvy lines of the English Dragoons. The German gunsmiths were all about angles.

The lock is a banana shaped, German in origin, with a flat topped frizzen. It has no external bridle, you are able to see the long sectioned finial on the triggerguard, which is also a very German design.

Smoke Poles come in many Different Kinds and Sizes Part Five, it has a distinctive German sideplate. My German Dragoon Pistol replica is nearly identical to one that is shown in Neumann's book The History of Weapons of the American Revolution, on page 194.

New Hampshire Rife Deer Season opens today Wednesday the 10th of November!

At this time of year, when going out into the woods. Its a good idea to wear Hunter Blaze Orange of some kind, to help make you more visible. Be it a hat, vest or coat.

Lets stay safe in the woods!

Dale - WOW!!!  That was certainly interesting!  While I'm not a gun person (never owned or shot one), I do find these guns fascinating.  Thx for the lesson on smoke pulls.  :)

Dale that was one fine explanation about your firearm. I read your comment over at the Hang Out, sorry to hear you didn't see much for opening day.

Donne, I really enjoy using old style firearms! Not only in the reenacting that I take part in, but also for hunting. Using them brings so more of a challenge for and to hunting. I'll be going into more details on using them.

Howdy and evening to you Carl and Ceil

I sure do appreciate having y'all stop by, and to having y'all sit and visiting for a spill. Carl and Ceil, Thank you mighty kindly! There will be even more to come. I have to say it was really the strangest thing, to be out on opening day. Not to see any deers or other hunters out.

Up here in New Hampshire, opening day is always on a Wed. and there is always hunter out. I did not even see any parked on the side of the road, on my way to area that I was going to hunt, plus not to even here a shot from any where. That just does not usually happen in this area.

Jane, it sure is, and it shoots mighty fine. Actually smoke pole is another name for Muzzleloader. Which are the kind of firearms that Davy Crockett and other folks used back then. These firearms got that nickname, because you use blackpowder in them, and when fired. You actually see the black smoke come from them.

Dale just checking in to see if you had received any additional comments on your blog. Glad to see our friend Ricki stopped by. Ceil's niece that lives in Lake City Colorado sent us some pic's today of some fine looking bucks that showed up in their front yard this morning. Maybe things will pick up for you up in your area.

Carl, as you were able to see, it did got a couple of more. It sure was mighty nice to see Ricki and Jane had stopped by to visit. There sure are some mighty fine looking Bucks there in Colorado. That's for sure!!! I was looking over tonight my notes and the maps of the pass 5 years, that I made of the area that I've been hunting in for the last two days.

I have my doggie a bright orange vest too Dale.  He's a pretty big Great Dane and fawn colored and we live quite close to land that is leased to hunters.  He doesn't so much like to wear it.  So our walks are quite short until round January.

I've never shot a muzzleloader.  That sure is a pretty gun!

I need to back up and read some of your other gun posts that I've missed.

Tammy, that sure does show you have a lot of love for your Great Dane family member. Just tell him, I said he is a lot smarter by wearing it, than many of the hunts that I see in this area, that do not wear hunter orange. I see so many hunts here that actually wear coats that are Tan in color.

Judi, that are a lot of fun, there is a lot more to learn and work and accessories need to have to using a Muzzleloader. For either going out shooting or hunting. Thank you mighty kindly! I've still got to write and post the other four parts to this series. But deer rifle season is open here right now. Which I always use a Muzzleloader during. I have never seen a deer season like the one we are having this year. Not a deer has been checked in, in my area as of yet this year. And season opened last Wed.
