Have you been to Headhouse Square lately? For those not familiar with the City of Brotherly Love, or perhaps the Headhouse, it is one of my favorite lcoations in Philly. That's one of the reasons I recently relocated my office to that area (we are 2 blocks south of the Headhouse).
Headhouse Square is located in Society Hill on the border of Queen Village. Headhouse Square is perhaps the oldest existing marketplace in the country. The idea dates back to the early 1700s, where sheds were constructed with a Headhouse at the end (the Headhouse was a firehouse - complete with bells and a Fireman's social club on the 2nd floor) to provide a marketplace for local merchants.
Headhouse Square (and the Headhouse) still stands today at 2nd and Pine Streets. Come and visit and you will find cobblestone streets with Georgian and Federal style buildings/homes. The Marketplace still thrives with Merchants from Spring to Christmas. The Farmers Market gets rave reviews from locals for the quality and variety of goods, and the Headhouse also hosts the Creative Collective Fine Arts Fair (a non-for-profit group committed to supporting creative arts in the city). Adjoining the Marketplace on 2nd Street are a variety of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and other stores and shops.
If you are in the area, simply go to 2nd and Pine Streets and stroll along southbound 2nd Street. Stop in and grab an amazing mocha or esspresso at Bodhi Coffee, or a pint at The Artful Dodger and The Dark Horse! Or stop in and say Hi to us! I'll buy anyone a pint that mentions this blog ;)!
PS - Be sure to check out the Holiday Trees and Shrubbery for sale at Headhouse!
