NGA Springfield VA-Photo US Army Corps of Engineer's PhotoWith the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) being built on the old Fort Belvoir Engineering Proving Grounds almost 6500 employees will be working in to the Springfield and Lorton area starting in September 2011.  The evidence of the move is evident.  The new NGA building is clearly visible for anyone traveling on I-95 and on the newly opened section of the Springfield Parkway.

For employees who will be moving to NGA finding homes in a reasonable commuting distance to work will be important. Traffic in and out of NGA will be tough. Let’s face it anytime you move a significant amount of employees from diverse locations to one place no matter how well the various government agencies plan commuting will be a challenge for awhile.

Fortunately there are a number of terrific communities providing a variety of housing prices and styles within a few miles of the NGA facility.  In addition shopping is close by with the renovated Saratoga Shopping Center, Lorton Station and two shopping centers in West Springfield.  Whether you are looking for a condo, townhouse or detached home you will be able to find a good selection.

Though I could list dozens of neighborhoods here for you to select from,  I don't believe in a cookie cutter approach to looking for your home close to NGA.  In order to help with your new home search there are a number of question to ask and which will help guide you to the neighborhood that will be right for you.  Some of those questions include:

Type of housing desired?  Condo, Townhouse, Detached Home
Urban or Suburban environment?
Minimum Number of Bedrooms and Bathrooms?
What times of amenities you hope to find in your new home?
Do you have school age children?
How far (in time) would you prefer to live from NGA?

Once we have a baseline of your top needs in a new home I can give you an idea of some of the neighborhoods that may be the best match for you.  If you have to look for a new home from afar, previewing and taking video of your top choices is a standard part of what I do for my relocating clients.

This list is just a peek at what might be available when you come to the area.  Don't worry NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED!
