The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra is ready to bring in the new year with its 2011 schedule of concerts.
The Lancaster Symphony performed My Fair Lady today (and also New Year's eve) with cast from the Fulton Theatre at The American Music Theatre. This semi-staged concert and show was well received by audience members and reflects the performances that we have come to expect from the Symphony. Conductor Stephen Gunzenhauser led the orchestra and chorus along with Dr. Willaim Wright (choirmaster) to accompany the costumed actors as they performed a lite -version of My Fair Lady directed by Marc Robin from the Fulton.
So what else does the symphony have on its list of performances for 2011?
In two weeks, January 14-16, the Symphony will perform Brahms, Beethoven & the Pianist at The Fulton Opera House with Yuliya Gorenman on piano. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, Brahms Symphony No. 1, & Rossini's "Italian in Algiers" Overture are the featured works of art.
Then enjoy Mozart & Salieri - Roots & Rivalry on March 4-6 at the Fulton Opera House. One piece will feature flute against oboe to reflect the real life rivalry between the two musicians.
Fantastique Berlioz will be performed April 15-17 with "Symphonie Fantastique ".
And on May 20-22, see and hear Tchaikovsky & Taneyev: Mentor & Protégé.
The Lancaster Symphony offers open rehearsals with Lido ( the conductor's animated baton). Learn helpful information about the performers, composers & musical pieces. Admission is free for these rehearsals which will be held starting around 3pm on January 13, March 3, and April 14. These are fun for children as well.
Why not support the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and enjoy a fabulous meal at the same time? A Taste of the Season will be held at Sunday January 30th at 6:30pm at Gilbraltar Restaurant with a menu composed by executive chef Carl Vitale and musical selections featuring violinists Jonathan Carney and Netanel Draiblate, trumpet soloist Rodney Mack, and pianist Martha Koeneman.
Sounds like an exciting year for the "Only In Lancaster" Lancaster Symphony Orchestra!
