I had a recent flurry of application activity and a few people asked what I did to create it. A couple of years ago, 2003 I started to keep track of birthdates and other significant anniversaries in client lives. I eventually put these dates and addresses in an excell spreadsheet. Each month I go through the list and clomplete a card, I usually have a post card to keep the postage down, and I mail them at the beginniing of each week.
It has become my most effective marketing tool. This with other helpful mailers to existing contacts has always helped. Currently I send out over 300 cards per year. On some of the psot cards I have the following pre-printed:
If you call me on your birthdate on my cell phone,. I will sing you happy birthday from wherever I am.
I have sung Happy Birthday from a number of places. Always to the amusement of those I am with. It is a litttle quirky, but they like it and it sets me apart. It is also more personal than a newsletter or advertising campaign.
