Every time I come to the new Safeway store, located in a small community in North Seattle call Pinehurst, I'm constantly amazed at the subtle design and how it adds to my overall shopping experience.  The entire store doesn't look like a typical grocery store, the front is lined with trellis, picnic tables and large beamed natural wood overhangs.  The sidewalks surrounding the store are lined with shade trees, rain gardens and bioswales that filter the water before it re-enters the ground. The parking lot is made from pervious pavement that allows water to penetrate and helps reduce the amount of pollutions that would normally find their way into our water ways. The Pinehurst store is the greenest Safeway store in the Seattle Division, and is designed as a prototype for future stores.

The Pinehurst store is build to strict Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) standards earning the silver certification issued by The United States Green Building Council.

The Pinehurst community is located 8.2 miles from downtown Seattle with a drive time of about 15 minutes.  It has a walking score of 77 with many accessible pocket-parks, restaurants and stores.  Currently there are 11 homes for sale ranging in price from $250,000-$400,000.
