Seattle's Pinehurst neighborhood completed the final stage of their "Green Grid" in the fall of 2006. The goals of the project were to reduce stormwater run off and flooding to nearby Thornton Creek, improve the drainage conveyance service, and to enhance the Pinehurst neighborhood with landscaping, sidewalks and new street paving.

The Green Grid project design incorporated 6 city blocks which received drainage improvements, bioswales, and trees all contributing greatly in reducing stormwater runoff into nearby Thornton Creek which eventually makes its way into Lake Washington.  This blueprint for stormwater management also control stormwater from an additional 6 city blocks into a Natural Drainage System for treatment of pollutants and infiltration of the runoff.

Besides from reducing the quality and amount of stormwater runoff the improvements did enhance the overall aesthetics, improved transportation and safety, and the tree plantings will provide a new improved green canopy for the neighborhood.  Increased bird activity has increase over the last 3 years, while driving through the neighborhood today I ran into a noted Merlin Falcon enthusiast filming two new to the neighborhood Merlin Falcons.

The Pinehurst community is located 8.2 miles from downtown Seattle with a drive time of about 15 minutes.  It has a walking score of 77 with many accessible pocket-parks, restaurants and stores. Currently there are 11 homes for sale ranging in price from $250,000-$400,000. For inormation contact Adrian Willanger 206 909-7536.
