NAR Releases Q4 2010 Median Home Price Information for Louisiana Cities

By
Real Estate Agent with Baton Rouge Area Homes

The National Association of Realtors has issued its quarterly median home price comparison and Baton Rouge & New Orleans fared very well in the report.

The NAR measured the median home prices in Q4 2009 vs Q4 2010 for the 152 largest metropolitan areas in the US.  78 showed price appreciation when compared with Q4 2009, 3 were flat and 71 showed home price declines.

Here the specific Baton Rouge and New Orleans median home price numbers:

- Baton Rouge - $157,400 (Q4 2009) vs $169.400 (Q4 2010) = 7.6% increase

- New Orleans - $157,900 (Q4 2009) vs $165,600 (Q4 2010) = 4.9% increase

This is some positive news for the housing markets of both New Orleans and Baton Rouge.  I don't think anyone is ready to announce that they have turned the corner, but these numbers are instructive as they show how these two markets are performing relative to the other major metropolitan housing markets in the US.

As the local job markets stabilize and/or generate job growth, the housing markets should continue to stabilize as well.  This data should provide comfort to those individuals, families and corporations that are looking to relocate to Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
