After a long and snowy winter it nice to enjoy some warm temperatures. These warm temperatures also mean that baseball season is here. The MLB have started there spring training but more exciting is the kids sign ups are underway!!Having a 11 year old son, that eats, sleeps and breaths baseball. This is a time that as a parent I reflect on how far he has come. When he started tee-ball he was so proud, but as a parent it was just precious. All 15 kids running for a ball, seeing spider-man underwear through white baseball pants, and looking at their face when they hit the ball "real far mom" off the tee. Each year as he has advanced through the leagues brings special moments- that amazing slide home, the speed of his pitch, nailing that ball and his growing knowledge of the game. These are things that I love to watch.
Living in a small town like Amelia, Virginia, baseball brings a sense of unity- well most of time. I am so excited every year for opening ceremonies- the kids lined up on the fields, the national anthem, clean and new uniforms, and that we have come through our winter hibernation and all the moms gets to catch up!! Yes, my family knows that baseball games is major social event for me! I love to see the people and catch on everything. I love to sit in the stands and talk, suck on ice pops to cool off and cheer like a wild woman with my friends. My husband typically assist with the team in some capacity and has been known to tell me not to get so excited from a far and all who surround me know thats Kelly- she will do a "wave" by herself. I do get a bit excited!
So many times as parents we get over taken by the competiveness of the game, that we loose sight of the spirit of baseball. So those times when you do not agree with call- and yes there are bad ones- look over at the tee-ball field for a little bit your will see that love of the game starting to blossom!
Play Ball!
