Louisiana Spends $$ to Spur Business Relocation

By
Real Estate Agent with Baton Rouge Area Homes

Louisiana's Economic Development (LED) group plans to spend approximately $5 million in 2011 to market the state of Louisiana to business executives around the US.

Competition among states and municipalities is fierce in convincing companies to relocate jobs to their region and its important that Louisiana's message about our strong business climate reach the right audience.  There has been a string of good economic news for Louisiana lately;  our business climate has been repeatedly touted as welcoming to small business relocation and we have won several major business relocation and expansion competitions.

This advertising is particularly important for Baton Rouge.  As a result of the last census, our local area population has grown to in excess of 800,000.  This growth has pushed Baton Rouge into a new, larger peer group of cities that we now compete with for business relocations and expansions.  Baton Rouge will now get looked at by a much larger universe of companies as they begin their relocation evaluation process.  So it is more critical than ever that Baton Rouge & Louisiana are aggressively communicating an accurate representation of how good the business climate is here.

While $5 million dollars sounds like a great deal of money for this project, it actually is not enough.  Ideally we should be spending 3 or 4 times that figure to more effectively get our message out.  I'm hopeful that some additional funds can be found during the year to beef this advertising program up.

In particular - our local market is very welcoming for small business relocation to Baton Rouge.  The Baton Rouge business climate - for private sector job creation - remains strong.  There are any number of organizations actively recruiting small businesses into our city. We've got a great deal going for us as we pitch those businesses to relocate here - Fantastic culture, stable real estate market, a stable job market and LSU continuing to graduate qualified potential employees.
