Last week-end the Martha Rose Construction  crew and friends held a de-construction sale at the building site of City Cabins® in Seattle Washington.  The site is currently occupied with a 1940's style duplex.  The first step was to remove everything that was left inside, instead of hauling everything to the dump the team elected to sort and price everything and try to find people who wanted or needed the interior furnishing.

The two day event at City Cabins® proved to be a major success, finding homes for much of the existing furnishings as well as building a database of clients who are interested in the fixtures, flooring, dimensional lumber, windows, cabinets, and doors.

What is left after the second phase will be donated to one of several companies who will clean up what is usable and sale it in their outlet stores.  The whole de-construction process may seem like allot of work, yet it helps supply individuals with building and housing materials at a greatly discounted price, reduces dumping fees and filing up landfills. The often overlooked benefit is the amount of new raw materials that aren't used when someone repurposes or reuses existing materials.

The homes that will be constructed on the infill site will be built by Martha Rose Construction and should be some of the most energy efficient homes in Seattle.
