The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has tapped Raleigh as the nation's most "sustainable" mid-size community.
San Jose, California took the top prize for large communities and Greenburg, Kan was the small community winner."
In addition to the "sustainability" prize, the chamber cited Raleigh's NeighborWoods Program, awarding it a $20,000 prize. The NeighborWoods program was set up to add to the number of trees lining Raleigh streets by planting on public rights-of-way. Residents receiving trees agree to water the trees for two years.
