For the past several years, our Mayor, Mufi Hanneman, has been talking about Kapolei, Hawaii as the "second city." There is no doubt that his vision is transforming into reality.
There are many new businesses, government facilities, roads, restaurants and box stores such as Home Depot and Target that will call Kapolei their home. The University of Hawaii West Oahu campus should be starting construction soon.
To add to the excitement about the expansion of the Leeward Coast, Walt Disney Resorts announced yesterday that they have purchased 21 acres of land on one of the man-made lagoons at the Ko'olina Resort in Kapolei to build a luxury hotel and timeshare. There is no theme park that is planned but there are activities planned for the hotel and timeshare. That is great news if you are a Disney Vacation Club member and want to come to Hawaii!
The existing resort is already a top notch place to visit and boasts a few great restaurants, pristine beaches, championship 18 hole golf course and a few JW Marriott properties.
Ground breaking is scheduled for next year and the completion should be in 2011.
Here's to hoping they have Kama'aina rates! Cheers!
