For the past several years, our Mayor, Mufi Hanneman, has been talking about Kapolei, Hawaii as the "second city."  There is no doubt that his vision is transforming into reality.

There are many new businesses, government facilities, roads, restaurants and box stores such as Home Depot and Target that will call Kapolei their home.  The University of Hawaii West Oahu campus should be starting construction soon.

To add to the excitement about the expansion of the Leeward Coast, Walt Disney Resorts announced yesterday that they have purchased 21 acres of land on one of the man-made lagoons at the Ko'olina Resort in Kapolei to build a luxury hotel and timeshare.  There is no theme park that is planned but there are activities planned for the hotel and timeshare.  That is great news if you are a Disney Vacation Club member and want to come to Hawaii!

The existing resort is already a top notch place to visit and boasts a few great restaurants, pristine beaches, championship 18 hole golf course and a few JW Marriott properties.

Ground breaking is scheduled for next year and the completion should be in 2011.

Here's to hoping they have Kama'aina rates!  Cheers!

Your tite had me wondering how much park entry fees would be, with land being to scares in Hawaii. Not sure Hawaii needs a theme park anyway.

YES!!! Finally a Disney Vacation Club property in the Aloha state?!?  My family and I have been waiting for that for awhile!!!   We could have always traded on Interval International but it so much easier dealing with DVC directly and it's good to know that DVC is expanding!

Roy-You got that right about the land and the fact that we don't need a theme park.  The whole state is a "natural theme park."  Aloha to you in Nebraska and I admire your volunteering at the zoo!

Aloha Chris and I am glad that this post was something that made you a happy guy!  I bet that 2011 can't come fast enough for you and your family.  Maybe you can get on the waiting list to be one of the first ones to enjoy the resort when it opens???

Hey Dave how cool is that, someday we need to get back to Hawaii. Of course, sooner than later. Alaska is my next big trip then back to Hawaii.

I just wish they would have built a big enough convention center to hold all us REALTORS.

David... this is good news and a start. Is there other property to buy out that they could actually add to this?  possibly add a small theme park. Just something as a basic attraction?  thanks

Jay-We may be getting a Disney property but I am jealous of you going to Alaska.  Will you be doing some fishing?  I had some friends bring me back some Halibut and Salmon about a month ago and damn was it good.  I thought our convention center downtown was a pretty big facility???  I welcome you back to Hawaii and definitely out for some golf Jay.  Aloha,

Jeff-There is a lot of land in Leeward Oahu and especially the old Barber Point Naval Air Station.  The Navy is supposed to be selling the whole property by September 2008.  I couldnt begin to tell you how prime that piece of real estate is and there is plenty of land out there too.  I should also mention that a large part of it is ocean front with multi-million dollar views of Honolulu and Diamond Head.

Aloha Seaglasshearts??? From what my sources tell me, they have aquired the piece of land on Lagoon #1 in between the chapel and the Ihilani Resort.  The field is the one that had been used in the past for the NFL Pro Bowlers to do their football clinic during the Pro Bowl week festivities.  Another way to describe it is that it is across the street from the Ko'olina golf pro shop and Roy's restaurant.  It sounds like you really love this place......maybe its time for you to buy!

David, that is excellent news and makes that Disney Timeshare a lot more interesting.  The family and I will definitely be looking into the Disney vacation clubs.

Eric-I am personally not a member of Disney Vacations clubs but my family sure does spend a lot of time at the Disney resorts.  You are right though that this latest move should make the Disney timeshares a lot more attractive.

Another realtor on ActiveRain noted that she thought construction on the Disney resort has been put on hold until the economy picks back up. Anyone else have any information?
