Should Uxbridge be known for its "Sports", the "Arts" or "Something Else"?
Paul Henderson Paul's career began in Lucknow, Ontario and progressed through Junior "A" with the Hamilton Red Wings and the National Hockey League (NHL). He scored 376 goals and added 384 assists during his 18 years as a professional hockey player. Paul played for the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Atlanta Flames and included 5 years in the World Hockey Association. Historic "72" Canada - Russia Hockey Series Paul Henderson 3 winning goals 3 games "History will remember Paul for the first Canada-Russia Hockey series in 1972, when Canada needed a victory in each of the last 3 games to win the series. Incredibly, Paul scored the winning goal in each of the 3 games. The goal in the last game was recently declared the greatest sports moment in the last century and Team Canada 72 was voted the Team of the Century. It made him a Canadian hero - a status he retains to this day." "Paul is a member of several Sports Halls of Fame including Canada‟s Sports Hall of Fame. He was born and raised in southwestern Ontario and is married to Eleanor, his high school sweetheart. They have 3 married daughters and seven grandchildren" |
Patrick Timney
After graduating from the University of Toronto, where he studied voice and opera Patrick was invited to join the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble. Here, in addition to performing in leading roles on tour and in mainstage productions, he created roles in three world premieres . Patrick has performed with opera companies and symphonies across North America. Operatic roles include Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and Marcello in La Boheme. On the symphonic stage "Patrick is noted for performances of Messiah, Elijah and Vaughn Williams' Five Mystical Songs - to name a few, in addition to a wide range of Broadway repertoire. He also portrayed Monsieur Andre in the Canadian National Tour of Phantom of the Opera for nearly three years." "Patrick and his wife Lisa perform together in concert settings. Some of their favorite repertoire comes from Broadway musicals, a genre that they love because of its abilities to tell compelling stories and to touch people‟s hearts." . |
