Today The Mortgage Buddy Meets Michael Maher and his 7 Levels of Communication

Today I had the privilege to meet Michael Maher, the author of The Seven Levels of Communication. For those who have not read this book I strongly recommend it. This seminar was an absolutely amazing event. It was a chance to meet with other motivated real estate professionals and rap about what makes them successful.

I was able to get so many new ideas from listening to others that I can't wait to start implementing them first thing tomorrow morning.

Here are some highlights from the seminar:

"Don't wait for a life changing event to change your life"

If you just sit and think about that for a few minutes we can all find some way for that statement to impact our lives.

Approach life with intensity: Whatever life task you are taking on. Attack with intensity, basically don't half @ss it.

A great tip that he talked about was appointment stacking: Stack appointments back to back blending established referral sources with new referrals sources, as a way to grow new relationships just by people ending meetings and starting meetings at similar times. That way everyone is meeting everyone else. Simple but well thought.

Here are some basic lunch questions we discussed for new clients:

1- What's your biggest challenge?

2- What have you tried so far?

3- What are you going to try next (to conquer that challenge)?

These are very basic questions but they get right to the point. That point being how can I add value to your process and be a problem solver.

I can't stress enough how important it is for all of us to never stop learning and never stop teaching. It's something I say all the time and it's something that was stressed at this seminar. Idle time does not promote growth nor does complancency. We can all learn from one another.

Great points John!  I love the statement "Don't wait for a life changing event to change your life."

I know I've certainly found myself taking a back seat in my own life only to wake up one day and realize an event that I'd overlooked had forced change in my life.  Very valuable words to keep top of mind!

Suggested it!

John, You are right we should alway be learning.   I am about 1/3 thru the book.  At this point it is just ok.  I think it is a combination of ways you communicate with people.  But all inpersonal communication does not build the kind of relationship that gets referrals.
