Paying it Forward - One on One Training with New Agents
This past Friday, I had the privilege of teaching my first “Blogging Basics Class” at our office to many new agents. Since it was a called “Blogging Basics 101”, I tried to keep it simple for these new agents, but I could tell by the expressions on some of their faces that I had lost a few of them. One student said that I lost him when I made the comment about coping and pasting a “URL”. I was telling them all what I thought about Active Rain, and why I thought they could benefit if they joined and started to blog too.
That’s when I recognized that they were not all on the same level when it came to technology. I was demonstrating how to make a simple flier using Postlets.com. since the Professional version was now FREE and made it possible to add more photos. Postlets could help them make a simple post in their blogs, and also post it to those social media sites too. I told my students that after the class was over, those that wanted some one on one training to stay behind, I would work with them an extra hour, and answer all of their questions. Even if they couldn’t stay behind on Friday, I promised to make myself available to help them with their blogging efforts, and other Techy marketing tips, like using Facebook, Twitter, and Craig’s List to market their listings, or simply to promote their own real estate business.
I am thankful that this “Blogging Basics Class” gave me the opportunity to reach out and help some of our newer agents to get started with their blogging efforts. They all received an invitation to join Active Rain, and I am looking forward to assisting all of them one on one in the near future.

Yes, Brenda. I think you have something about the "fear of not knowing". I was not sure myself in the beginning either. But, I am glad that I made the decision to blog on a regular basis.

You know what they say..."You can lead a horse to water". I've been surprised at the response from several Realtors that I have talked to about blogging and Active Rain. They listen and then tell me that they are sure that it may be good for some but that it wouldn't work for them. I don't think that they realize how helpful this can be for their business. The exposure they can get for themselves for a nominal cost is incredible. You're doing a great service for these new agents and I hope they appreciate what you're doing for them.

Yes, Doug. It's kind of disappointing that the majority of the agents in my office don't see the value or the advantages for blogging on a regular basis. It seems like only the new agents are very receptive to trying to blog.
