Get Ready for "Labor Day"!
Labor Day is almost here and this post provides excellent advice to all of us homeowners. Please leave all comments for Dan Edward Phillips. I read Dan's blog every day and always find great information and useful tips. Check out his blog as you can't go wrong.
Labor Day is fast approaching! The month of September will bring the rainy season here to Humboldt County, California.
In order to enjoy the long 'Labor Day Weekend', here is a list of items to complete the next two weekends;
1. Clean out the rain gutters. It has been a 'windy' summer here and they will be full of debris if you live amongst the Redwood Trees.
2. As you clean the gutters; inspect them. Complete any necessary repairs before the rain starts.
3. As you clean the gutters, do a visual inspection of the roof. Are there any shingles lifting, do you notice any other issues with your roof that need to be addressed before the rains set in? If you detect issues, contact your roofing contract while the weather is still good and have them repaired.
4. Check the paint on your home. The window ledges are especially important! If you detect any areas where the paint is pealing or flaking, take the time to repaint those areas now. Or contact a 'painting contractor' and have them complete the work.
5. Walk your property fences and any cross fences on your property. Check each post and inspect each board if your fence is wooden. Mark any defective areas and make the repairs or call your fencing contractor.
6. Inspect the trees on your property. If you have Redwood's you may need binoculars to inspect the tops. Are there any broken branches, do you have a tree that is leaning heavily? If there are issues; take care of them or if you need the assistance of professionals, contact your tree trimmer and complete the work before the ground (and your lawn) becomes wet and soft.
Complete the inspections and cleaning the next two weekends and you will have a much 'happier' Labor Day Weekend!
