Paul Chaney originally asked the question, "How are Blogging and Real Estate Alike?" back in March which I pushed a bit because it seemed to be an intriguing question that wasn't getting any real attention. Fortunately, we received plenty of insightful and interesting answers from the real estate blogging community.
I had a particular fondness for Dustin’s response, “Both real estate and blogging thrive when they effectively serve a local and/or niche market.” Much of blogging has to do with exploiting the niches. As a realtor your core expertise is your local market and there is no more an effective way to use a blog but to define your expertise to your target market. Blogging’s appeal lay with its ability to facilitate your online message. Blogging can help you extend your value, brand and expertise in a very personal and intimate nature by allowing you to share your knowledge of the local market, schools, economy, etc. with potential homebuyers and sellers. Starting up a blog and trying to market to the masses makes as much sense as Jane Doe the realtor trying to sell to the entire U.S. The key is to keep your blog updated, intimate and most importantly, keep it local. Quoting Dustin Luther, "I happen to think that blogging is a great way for agents to get out from under the “red” of the curve (where most real estate websites live… and die) and out into the long tail where their niche knowledge will be appreciated and rewarded!"
