Who is This Reptile? | Why is He Important? | Where Does He Reside? | Answer
I would have posted the answer to this question a week or so ago, if not for the fact that I have been very busy with training and working with new clients at my new office at RE/MAX Heritage.
It is time to get back on the band wagon with my back to school series of statues post, but first we must anwer the question posed above since no one was able to guess the correct answer.
So Who is this GREEN Godzilla like creature, who created him, where did he reside prior to his current location and where does he reside now?
This is none other than “Iggy” the 40 ft. Iguana that now resides at the Fort Worth Zoo. This famous Iguana sculpture that literally has a cult following around the country was created by famed Texas artist Bob “Daddy-O” Wade. "Iggy" used to reside atop the famous Lone Star Café in New York City, where the likes of Willie Nelson, Kinky Friedman, and others played.
When the café closed a Virginia couple bought Iggy and put him on their farm. Then in 1997, Wade and a Dallas Financier bought it back, then two years later Iggy was purchased by Lee M. Bass, as in the famous Bass Family of Fort Worth (Bass Performance Hall). Iggy is on loan to the Zoo and you can read more about the history behind Iggy here.
The Fort Worth Zoo is just one of many places to see and visit while either living in or visiting Fort Worth, Texas. The Fort Worth Zoo is recognized as one of the premier Zoos in the United States, if not the world. It is a must see while living or visiting Fort Worth, Texas.
I did not realize until doing my research for this answer that Bob “Daddy-O” Wade actually created this sculpture that I snapped a picture of (yes, that is in fact a Volkswagen Beetle at the bottom of the Saxophone) back in 2005 down in Houston outside of a country bar that a friend of mine and myself were visiting while in town for the Big 12 Championship game between the University of Texas and University of Colorado. Texas trounced Colorado 70-3 and went on to win the National Championship that year.
FYI, I am giving you guys ever so suttle hint each time I post one of these, I guess no one has figured it out yet. Okay come back next week where we will pick up my series again.
